Brenda Soledad Carmona was born in Argentina in 1990 and now lives in Asti. She attends the city's CPIA 1 and participated in the "Lingua Madre" competition under the guidance of instructor Francesca Tabusso, sharing her experience as a woman and mother during a time of great personal change. Writing allows her to give voice to emotions and experiences she feels are common to many women, especially those who become mothers or rediscover their motherhood. With her story "Mother in a Foreign Land," she won Third Prize in the 21st edition of the Lingua Madre national literary competition, citing the following: "A very interesting text that offers a glimpse into being a foreign mother in Italy. The neologism "materniamo," and consequently "paterniamo," is curious and worth highlighting, as it is profound and meaningful. A short story that's deeply thought-provoking, especially for those who don't have multiple affiliations, because it highlights how far from predictable it is for a migrant woman to deal with children, childbirth, pregnancy, and everything that comes with it. In her home country, all of this happens very differently, from the context to the support received. It could be described as an "educational" story, shedding new light on a very old topic.
