Born in Catania, Paola Cannatella began living between Piedmont and Lombardy immediately after the publication of her first graphic novel in 2007. She is a comic book author for young and old readers, an editorial graphic designer specializing in calligraphy for comics—winner of the Gran Guinigi Pro Prize at the 2024 Lucca Awards for Best Lettering—and a teacher of "comics for everyone." Her graphic novels have given body and soul to real-life female characters, such as Maria Grazia Cutuli (Where the Earth Burns) and Oriana Fallaci (Oriana. A Free Woman—2023 Acquistoria Prize and 2022 Coco Prize for Best Graphic Novel). Some short stories have appeared in "La Lettura"/CdS. As a comic book teacher, she has designed and led workshops and short courses for festivals, bookstores, and cultural centers, as well as workshops for schools. She returned to Catania in 2020. "The Princess Who Drawn Ugly Faces" is her first children's comic book.
