Franco Gabrielli
Who is?

Franco Gabrielli is a prefect and senior Italian government official whose career has spanned the highest levels of security and public administration institutions. Over the years, he has held senior positions in the intelligence community, first as director of the SISDE and then of the AISI, contributing to the management of sensitive national security dossiers. At the same time, he has gained significant experience as a prefect, leading complex institutions such as the city of L'Aquila—during a period marked by post-earthquake reconstruction—and subsequently the Prefecture of Rome. He also played a central role in emergency management as head of the Civil Protection Department, consolidating an operational vision based on coordination and institutional effectiveness.
From 2016 to 2021, he served as Chief of Police and Director General of Public Security, a position in which he led the country's internal security administration during a period marked by significant challenges in terms of public order and prevention.
Subsequently, from 2021 to 2022, he served as Undersecretary of State to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers in the Draghi government, with responsibility for intelligence services for the security of the Republic, thus continuing his commitment at the highest levels of Italian institutions.
His publications include Shipwrecks and New Arrivals. From the Concordia Disaster to the Future of Civil Protection (Baldini + Castoldi, 2022), The Culture of Security. Institutions and Communities in Crisis and Emergency Management (Egea, 2025), and Against Fear. Manifesto for Democratic Security (Feltrinelli, 2026).
